Oh, the Irony!

Not that I am trying to load this blog with Spider-man or Star Wars-themed posts, but I found this little tidbit from IMDB amusing:

George Lucas has joined the major newspaper critics in their negative appraisal of Spider-Man 3. In an interview with FoxNews.com's Roger Friedman, Lucas said, "It's a silly movie. ... There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?"

So, George, you thought Spider-man 3 was "silly," eh? It "didn't have much story," did it? Well, it's not that I necessarily disagree with you, but, REALLY, George... "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Ha! I agree. I like Lucas very much, but he certainly has given us some silliness over the years.

...but, I guess that does not make him unable or unqualified to point out silliness where he thinks he sees it.

Maybe he should come out and say, "Hey, it takes one to know one."

Very true, Tuck. Like I said, I actually agree with him. There was a lot of silliness in Spider-man 3, but it's a criticism that just sounds funny coming from Lucas (like when Dr. Phil wrote that book on dieting).

Spider-Man 3 seems to be copping quite a bit of flak, but I found it quite good for what it is meant to be - a big screen translation of a comic. As a teenager, I was a big fan of Spider-Man comics and I think Raimi has done a pretty good job with all three films so far. Each is like a different comic book.

As for Lucas, I know his films have a big following, but I found ever since the first Star Wars, the humour aims low and I couldn't get into it.

I quite agree, Paul. I liked the third Spider-man and feel that it's being unfairly attacked by critics and audiences. In many respects it's a superior product to several of the Star Wars movies.

Anyway, thanks for your comment. I appreciate it. :)

And thanks for the link. FYI, my take on Spidey3 is here.

Lucas is a sumbitch.

I guess he can state his opinion, but he has single handedly killed a couple of his movies by making more and he has no one to blame but himself.

Insert Jar Jar joke here.

I actually read your take on Spidey 3 and I liked it.

As for the link, you're welcome. Whenever someone take the time to leave a comment on my blog, I always check to see if they have one of their own. If I like it, then I figure they deserve a link.

Piper:

The sad part is that I still like Lucas. Sometimes I feel like an abused spouse always coming back for more. :(

Q:What do Ithorians put things in?
A: Jar Jars

Not to stray off topic (haven't seen Spidey III nor the newer Star Wars films), but it's kind of neat when filmmakers comment on, criticize, other filmmakers' films.

I would gladly welcome more of that sort of thing.
